Mother Tongue Languages
Department Philosophy
The Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Department aims to nurture students who are not only enthusiastic about learning their Mother Tongue but also highly proficient in the language. To foster this enthusiasm and raise proficiency in language use, our department implements a range of purposefully designed programmes and activities. These initiatives are aimed at making learning experiences engaging and rewarding, thereby deepening students' appreciation of their Mother Tongue and enhancing their language skills.
Signature Programmes
Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight
The Mother Tongue Languages Fortnight is a key annual event for our students. The programme aims to deepen students' appreciation of the culture, history and values associated with each language. Through vibrant cultural activities, the event fosters joy of learning and enhances students' ability to think critically and express their ideas with confidence, both in written and spoken forms of their Mother Tongue Languages.
Festival Celebrations
To commemorate major ethnic celebrations in Singapore, our school celebrates Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Deepavali with various classroom activities and concerts. These events highlight the cultural significance of each festival, helping students appreciate and respect the rich traditions of our diverse community.
Audio and Video Challenge
The Audio and Video Challenge is designed to engage students in the fields of journalism and broadcasting by having them create audio and video recordings that reflect their research on various themes, such as traditional food, games, and appreciation for the arts. This project aims to foster creativity, improve research skills, and allow students to showcase their learning through quality multimedia content.
