Department Philosophy
The English Language and Literature Department believes that each student has his/her unique voice which can shape the world into a better place. We aim to develop our students into effective and empathetic communicators who are well-prepared to face the challenges of the future. To instill a passion for language and literature learning, we provide vibrant, enriching and authentic programmes that are customised to hone each student’s linguistic abilities to the fullest and encourage student voice.
Signature Programmes
Poetry Slam
As an extension of the Secondary One English Language and Literature curriculum, all Secondary One students participate in the Poetry Slam programme to compose and perform original poems of their own. The programme culminates in an exciting inter-class Poetry Slam competition where students combine creativity in language use with stage performance.
Drama Slam
Secondary Two students transform into junior playwrights through this drama enrichment programme. They adapt personal stories into short skits and inject life to the narratives through an inter-class drama competition. In the process, students grow in confidence as they
Green Spaces Literary Augmented Reality (AR) Trail Design
Through collaboration with the National Arts Council via the Artist-in-School Scheme, selected Secondary Two and Three students learn from a professional poet to compose a literary anthology of poems and artwork, which are transposed to an interactive, multi-sensory AR learning experience in our school's green spaces.
